Everybody loves a good story

After 11 years in the banking sector, Neema Kamau took a career break in 2013, to exhale, spend more time with her children and rediscover herself. One of her biggest challenges at the time was finding a diverse range of affordable children’s storybooks, games and learning resources. This led her to create Elimubox, a community where you have access to affordable books, a range of games and puzzles

Neema Kamau approached Creative Consillium to help her re-build her shopify store. Her goal was to have a dynamic website that not only sells books, but also resource center for parents.

Research

Research was done to understand the goal, desires and pain of users that are interested in buying books. Also understand the brand and their business goals.

01. Understanding the brand

Through a series of discovery calls with Neema, I got to understand her vision, her target audience and what she wanted achieved on her website. This helped me ideate better as I worked on a solution for her brand

Target Audience

25 – 50 years
Mothers, parents or anyone interested in buying books for kids as young as 2 years

Success Targets

Increased number of sales from the website
Building a community of book lovers among kids.

Having easy access to books that users can order easily and get additional information about particular aurthors or books

Define

After several meetings both internally and with Neema, I was able to understand the user frustrations, user motivation and the user journey

02 Average User Journey

Considering that most of Neema’s users get to know ElimuBox either through personal interactions with her or through social media. This is what the average journey would be:

  • Come to the website through social media or a direct link
  • Explore the website for books of interest
  • Pick a book and add to cart
  • Complete the checkout process and shipping
  • Reads a blog/watch youtube video/ View events by Neema

The second targeted audience that would:

  • Come to the website through social media or direct link
  • Read a blog/ watch a YouTube video/ View events by Neema
  • Decide to explore the website for books of interest
  • Pick a book and add to cart

We decided to use wordpress instead of shopify. WordPress is a dynamic and easy CMS. This gave Neema an option of blogging, adding YouTube videos and even events.
We used woocommerce for the e-commerce part of the shop and for payment integration we used PesaPal
